In our previous blog, The Science Behind Upword, we discussed research supporting new, efficient, and effective ways to learn. This blog will explain how these scientific findings have been woven into our features to create a quality learning experience.

Introducing Upword!

We are passionate about enhancing the learning experience. Every ****feature that we develop is based on and backed by concrete scientific methods and strategies to create an optimal and efficient learning experience. For now, we have three features that we are excited to share with you.

The first is preview.

The preview feature is an AI generated summary of the text—designed in order to apply what we call—"Priming" —top-down processing—which is proven to help readers get the main ideas, concepts and context of the text before they dive into the actual reading (basically, this feature reduces cognitive load and allows a much smoother reading experience).

Second, is text augmentation.  We simply call it magic.

Text augmentation uses AI to automatically highlight the most important sentences in the text. This feature is meant to reduce cognitive load for skim readers, and make sure they do not miss important parts of the text as they skim through.

Third, is the audio feature.

This feature takes into account that we humans learn better when information is presented in multiple ways. Interacting with the information in different ways (reading + listening) allows you to learn better by relying on different brain systems (multidimensional learning). This feature is especially helpful for those with learning challenges and disabilities.

In addition to the helpful features we already have, we are looking to the future and will have more features coming soon— For example, the feature of chunking, memory spacing and deliberate practice.

At Upword, we are excited to be a part of such a fascinating and meaningful field. We look forward to releasing more features to help YOU learn in the best possible way using modern and updated reading strategies. Our vision at Upword is to move towards personalized learning, giving individuals appropriate content based on their prior knowledge and customizing each reading experience based on the users goals and needs. We aim to optimize content consumption, especially in reading, in order to help readers become the most productive and efficient that they can be.
